Prepare, Survive, Recover: The 3 Phases of Police Response to High Risk Actions

High-risk police action opens up officers to physical and mental injuries.  This 6-hour training course covers the mental preparation, the mid-action medical response, and the after-action debriefing tactics for the best potential outcome in these types of scenarios.

PREPARE: In only a few seconds, a threat can change an officer’s life because that threat can affect the officer’s reactions and abilities in many ways. This section will teach the different physiological (physical) effects of being in a threatening situation, and will demonstrate how to calm anxiety, and prevent panic, for calm and stable handling of intense situations.

SURVIVE: Taught by a tactical team medic/RN, this section is an excellent skills-demonstration course, designed to provide you with basic tactical medical skills and/or to refresh your memory in between LEFR re-certification dates. Skills include when and where to treat what, response to massive hemorrhage, airway issues, respiratory/breathing issues, circulation/bleeding, and hypothermia prevention.

RECOVER: Even when everything goes as planned, a high-risk response situation can have aspects that are extremely difficult to experience. When things don’t go as planned, a team can have moments of blame or doubt which can turn into resentment, tearing apart the team. This post-action debriefing session teaches how to debrief in order to assess what went right & wrong, but also to eliminate blame & anger, and bring the team to a place of cohesiveness and strength to go forward.
